How To Protect The LED Monitor From Lightning Damage?

Industrial LED monitors are widely used in both indoor and outdoor applications. According to the different use of LED display screens, the installation location is also different, some are installed in the outdoor high location, and the installation bracket is generally iron. In the summer thunderstorm season, the probability of LED screen becoming a lightning target is very high. Once the LED display screen is hit by lightning, because it is a high-density integrated display, it has a high sensitivity to anti-interference. Heavy lightning would cause serious damage to the monitor's electronic components and even cause a fire. So, it is necessary to take some measures to avoid lightning damage to the LED monitors.

 

LED monitor Lightning protection measures:

1. For the lightning current induced on the signal cable, a signal lightning protector should be installed on the signal cable. The installation of the signal arrester depends on the system's signal interfaces. If it is a Network cable, the Network signal lightning arrester shall be installed, and the DB9 interface lightning arrester shall be installed for the serial interface, etc. The sectional area of the connecting ground wire should be more than 1.5mm

 

2. For the lightning current induced on the power cable, a single-phase or three-phase power lightning protector should be installed on the power cable. The cross-sectional area of the phase line shall not be less than 10mm square, and the cross-sectional area of the connecting ground wire should more than 16mm square.

 

3. For the lightning of the steel material structure, connect the steel structure with the shell of the LED display screen, connect equal potential, and grounding wire well. The grounding resistance value should be less than 10Ω. If the resistance value fails to meet the requirements, an additional artificial grounding grid shall be made. Lightning arresters should also be well-grounded.

 

4. For the protection of direct lightning, the lightning rod shall be installed on the support structure of the LED display screen (outdoor), and it is unnecessary to install lightning rod for indoor LED monitor screen.

 

5. Direct lightning protection: there are no tall buildings around in the open area, which proves that your pole is located in the LPZOA area and is easy to suffer direct lightning. Therefore, it is necessary to add a lightning rod. The height of the lightning rod is calculated by the rolling ball method. If it's too troublesome, the previous 45-degree broken line method (with the lightning rod tip as the center, the area covered by the 45-degree angle belongs to the protected range) can also be used, but the accuracy is not so high.

 

6. Lightning protection grounding grid: if lightning rod is installed, a simple grounding grid must be made as a lightning discharge channel. It is usually cheaper to use angle steel and flat steel connection.


7. Surge protection measures: since there are optical terminals and video servers in the distribution box, their power supply must be guaranteed, so a lightning proof socket is designed at their power supply location as the protection of power supply. In addition, the signal cables introduced into the power box shall be equipped with lightning arresters matching the voltage and interface. The optical fiber end does not need to be installed, because the optical fiber is an insulating device, which will not be affected by induced lightning, but the optical fiber reinforcing core must be grounded nearby to avoid damage to the optical fiber due to electrostatic induction and lightning heating effect.
